Stop Mistreating Your Gifts

It's been a while since I've shared. I'll let you in on what's been happening with me in a later blog.

Today I am reminded of a time I walked in my daughters' room. They were much younger, and didn't really keep their room that tidy. This particular evening I walked in and saw brand new clothes I had purchased thrown on the floor. Now I hadn't paid that much for the clothes, I love a good sale and I am a clearance rack shopper, but it was the principle. I had taken my time to look for these items. I spent my hard earned money on clothes when I probably should've paid a bill. Anyway I began fussing at the girls. I told them they needed to appreciate what they had and needed to show more respect to me. I was going on and on about how I don't require a lot from them. All I wanted was for them to take care of what I gave them. Y'all in that moment of me so-called giving them a lesson, The Lord spoke to me and said, "That's all I ask of you." I immediately stopped all the fussing. I had to walk out the room! There is nothing more embarrassing than correcting your children, but then you get reprimanded by your own words. I was guilty of the same thing!! The Lord had given me some things that I hadn't been taking care of. I apologized to God for mistreating what He had given me. I apologized to the girls and told them that I had done the same thing, but in a different way. We picked the clothes up together and put them where they belonged.

So this morning I was having a little talk with my Heavenly Father and in listening for an answer I was reminded of that day. Because I am a flawed being I'm still not putting all of my gifts to good use. They may not be "on the floor, but maybe still in the bag, or packed away". I believe the Lord was reminding me to use and appreciate the gifts.

So my question to you is what has God gifted you with that you aren't taking care of? What has He given you and you've just thrown it down "on the floor" to be trampled on? Or maybe it's a person God has placed in your life. Do you see their importance, or have you just kind of overlooked them?

God took the time to pick this thing out, paid for it, and gave it to you and me. Whatever it is pick it up. Put it in its right place. Take care of it. Use it the way it was intended. Share it. Whatever you do, don't just throw it down and forget about it.

I hope this little snippet of my life has opened your eyes like it did mine that day and this morning. Let's continue walking on this water and begin appreciating and taking care of the gifts we have.

He gave me this body and I need to treat it better. Drink more water, exercise more, be more gentle with it. Thanks friend!
